Qurbani & money
A Qurbani payment is not a donation
Money paid for a Qurbani animal buys a service. It is not a gift, and a charity must not issue a donation receipt for it.
Where CAF stands today
CAF does not currently offer a Qurbani service and does not accept Qurbani payments. If you have been asked to pay CAF for a Qurbani, please tell us.

Three questions for professional advice
If CAF ever offers a Qurbani service, it will be only after Canadian professional advice on three points.
- Charitable purposesWhether the activity fits CAF’s charitable purposes. Selling Qurbani would be a business activity, and a charity may carry on only a business that is related to its charitable purposes.
- GST/HSTHow GST/HST applies to the service.
- The consumer contractWhat you are buying, and what happens if it cannot be performed.
The risk that is not legal
A missed Qurbani cannot be refunded.
A Qurbani must be performed within the days of Eid al-Adha, a window of three to four days depending on the school of law. If it is not performed, that cannot be put right with a refund.
So any first season would be small, at a volume that can certainly be delivered.
Everything we say about ourselves can be checked.
